The Angel Feeds Elijah (2nd half 16th century)

The Angel Feeds Elijah (2nd half 16th century)
Willem Andriesz. de Raet 16e eeuw
tapestry (175 × 548 cm) — 2nd half 16th century
Kings 19:5 - And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
The life of the prophet Elijah is threatened by queen Jezebel, who has already had hundreds of Elijah's colleagues killed. The disheartened Elijah withdraws, to fall asleep under a tree, hoping to never wake up again. But an angel (a messenger from God) wakes him and gives him bread and water.

This tapestry is made from linen, wool and silk. It is one of the few surviving tapestries by De Raet.
