Tobit and Anna waiting for the return of their son (1659)

Tobit and Anna waiting for the return of their son (1659)
Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn 1606 – 1669
oil on panel (40 × 54 cm) — 1659
Tobit 10:2 - Then Tobit said, Are they detained? or is Gabael dead, and there is no man to give him the money?
While their son Tobias is traveling, Tobit and Anna sit at home waiting. Anna is working with a spinning wheel, Tobit sits near the fireplace. As the days pass, they become worried. Tobit is concerned mostly about his business interests. Anna thinks something may have happened to Tobias and that they will never see him again.

For some time this work was attributed to Barend Fabritius, one of Rembrandt's followers. But in 2010 research showed it is a Rembrandt after all.
